How the Brain to Body System Provides Chronic Pain Relief in Greatwood, TX

To reverse chronic pain and/or nerve disease, areas of the body that have become weak due to disease or injury must be strengthened. This includes your brain, nerves, muscles, blood vessels, and cells. Our experts here at Texas Nerve and Spine developed the most advanced pain and nerve therapy system to do all of this and more, and we call it the Brain to Body System.

From fibromyalgia and disc herniations to diabetic neuropathy and sciatica, our Brain to Body System helps restore your health and corrects the causes of your problems. Unlike treatments from other nerve and spine clinics, our system provides long-term relief without relying on invasive surgeries or dangerously addictive pharmaceutical medications.

To understand how our Brain to Body System solves chronic pain and similar conditions like nerve disease, you need a basic knowledge of the conditions themselves. That way, you can understand why so many who suffer from them rarely improve.

Chronic Pain

Chronic Pain

This is a type of pain that does not get better on its own or that doesn't alleviate after traditional medical treatments or prescription pain meds.

Nerve Disease

Nerve Disease

This is a type of pain that does not get better on its own or that doesn't alleviate after traditional medical treatments or prescription pain meds.

Chronic pain from nerve diseases and serious injuries causes a domino effect within your body. It starts with inflammation, which leads to decreased blood supply. This reduced blood supply results in a lack of oxygen. When your body doesn't get enough oxygen, it loses crucial nutrients that your body needs. This progressive effect often leads to long-term problems such as:

  • Chronic Pain
  • Motor-Function Loss
  • Loss of Sensation
  • Muscular Atrophy
  • Loss of Movement
  • Depression

But with Texas Nerve and Spine's Brain to Body system, patients suffering from chronic pain and nerve disease build strength through rehabilitation. This advanced system helps:

  • Stimulate New Nerve Pathways
  • Strengthen and Grow Muscles
  • Promotes Cellular Repair
  • Improves Circulation and Blood Flow

Our Brain to Body System is central to our approach to chronic musculoskeletal pain relief and chronic nerve pain relief in Greatwood, TX. By following the Brain to Body system, we can provide several services to patients suffering from chronic pain and nerve damage.

EWOT:Exercise with Oxygen Therapy

At Texas Nerve and Spine, our doctors use the NuStep Recumbent Cross Trainer to help achieve the aforementioned benefits. This specialized machine trains your muscles, brain, and nerves to work together, which supports your body's healing processes. While using the NuStep Recumbent Cross Trainer, patients are hooked up to an oxygen generator to enjoy the benefits of EWOT and reach their chronic pain relief goals.

When you oxygenate your blood with EWOT, it can have amazing benefits that can:

TherapySpinal Decompression Therapy

Spinal conditions range in severity from barely noticeable to absolutely crippling. To get to the bottom of your spine conditions, our team uses X-Rays to pinpoint the location of your spine's disease. From there, we craft a custom rehabilitation program that addresses the underlying causes of your spine pain. Often, part of that therapy includes spinal decompression.

Pain Specialist Greatwood, TX

How Does Spinal Decompression Therapy Work?

Spinal decompression works by gently stretching the spine. When the spine is stretched, it changes its position. This change relieves pressure off the discs in your spine, which act as cushions in your back. By creating negative pressure, herniated and bulging discs retract, giving the nerves and structures in your back relief. This relief sends nutrient-rich fluids and oxygen to the discs in your back so they can heal properly.

One restaurant in the largely residential Greatwood community is taking a relaxed approach to sushi. Gojira Japanese Fusion & Bar opened about a year and a half ago at 6560 Greatwood Parkway in Sugar Land’s extraterritorial jurisdiction.

Owner Lawrence Lee moved from Brooklyn to Sugar Land about five years ago at the advice of family who lived here. He had worked in Chinese, Japanese, Thai and Vietnamese restaurants for nearly a decade and heard there were more opportunities in Texas.

“I felt like I wanted to do … Japanese food in a casual environment—basically every-day Japanese food, not upscale, and affordable,” Lee said. “Since we’re in the [residential] neighborhood, I wanted to make it where it’s casual.”

Manager Nicole Hamak said that among Gojira’s more than 80 sushi and sashimi options, the Sugar Land sushi roll ($13.50) is one of the most popular items. It was created by Vin Cheung, one of several sushi chefs at Gojira.

“I wanted to make a sushi that has a lot of different kinds of colors on it,” Cheun said.

Another popular dish is the Shaggy Dog ($12.50), which contains shrimp tempura and imitation crab mix, and is one of 30 cooked sushi roll varieties on Gojira’s menu for first-time sushi eaters and children. Gojira’s “fusion” menu features hibachi-grilled entrees, noodle dishes and other chef specialties. Plates like the firecracker chicken, covered in Lee’s original sweet and spicy firecracker sauce, are served with soup, salad and rice ($12.50).

Now until about June, the eatery is selling Louisiana crawfish with Cajun-style or Asian garlic spices for $6.99 per pound or $32 for 5 pounds until the season ends, Lee said. The staff is working to get the patio ready for spring and summer patrons.

“We want to cater to families, so crawfish is something the whole family can eat together,” Lee said.

Jennifer Kenesek, left, Jeffrey Paul, Sakki Joseph, a candidate for Sugar Land City Council District 4, Native Texan and undefeated WBC middleweight champion Jermall Charlo, Kevin Rios and Dan Mathews at a reception at the Veritas Steakhouse in Greatwood last week.

Small business truly is the heart and soul of America. With the global pandemic many of our friends didn’t survive the past year and that favorite burger place, the dry cleaners owned by the sweet family where everyone knows your name and exactly how to iron your shirts is gone.

There are many heartbreaking stories of families who that did could not keep afloat, many owned local shops that were thought of as an institution in the towns they call home. Then there are stories like Kevin Rios.

The story of Kevin Rios and why he chose to bring his business and set up in District 4 is one of perseverance and resilience.

Kevin is a restaurateur that adapted to the unknowns of the COVID 19 pandemic. He is an example of a business leader always willing to give back and always answering the call on behalf of neighbors. He has been a staple in the Sugar Land area for years opening Veritas Steak and Seafood but over the past year he opened a new concept called Drake’s Burger and Shakes in Greatwood.

Kevin was born in Houston but raised in the Sugar Land/Missouri City area. His Fort Bend County roots run deep, he went to Palmer Elementary, Quail Valley Middle School and Elkins High School. When asked about Sugar Land he says, “I would not live anywhere else.”

Known to be one of the best neighborhoods to live and raise your family, Greatwood, is a snapshot of everything great about Sugar Land living. Most recently he has transformed his neighborhood burger joint back into the original Veritas Steak and Seafood bringing elevated food to a neighborhood in Sugar Land’s District 4, where small business is few and far between. Typically district 4 is known to be just families and infrastructure, only 10 minutes away from city hall and the heart of Sugar Land town center.

Rios has a commitment to his community and proudly lives the dream of every small business owner bringing jobs and growth to a district that needs to utilize the area it has to expand growth. With our county and its transition out of county lockdown, most are still working from home and that is not expected to change back anytime soon. Companies have found a way to adapt and survive, just like Kevin Rios.

According to a Forrester report on making it work with remote work, “This is impressive, as the percentage of full-time remote information workers in the US has ballooned from 8% to 69%.”

This means more people are working from home and that means this neighborhood model will thrive. Having great staff and excellent food is at the heart of this concept, providing more jobs to the community is a nice perk. Each of us has the capacity to change the world and advance the lives of others through the power of hope.

Kevin Rios understands that when you are able to communicate the power of hope with an inspiring entrepreneurial story of success you can impact and empower a new generation of business leadership. With 99% of all business in the United States being specifically small businesses, we must move forward and commit to putting their needs first.

Throughout the pandemic we had many challenges and here in Sugar Land we saw our entire community step up and make sure those small businesses were helped even if government was moving slower to help get more of them back to business.

Governor Abbott’s move to open Texas showed great leadership and commitment to meeting the needs of small business owners throughout the state of Texas. Over the span of 10 years, small businesses was able to create close to 10 million new jobs in comparison to big businesses which only created half of that amount in new jobs.

Small business in America is often the boots on the ground when crisis hits and that community anchor cannot be taken for granted.

Kevin Rios and restaurants exactly like his are what American dreams are made of — heart and soul. (By Jennifer Knesek)

Updated Feb. 19 at 1:10 p.m.

The city of Sugar Land has rescinded the boil-water notice for the Greatwood water system, which provides water to the Greatwood and Greatwood Lakes communities, as of 12:20 pm. Feb. 19.

No portion of Sugar Land is currently under a boil-water notice. However, boil notices remain in effect for the 10 Missouri City MUDs included later in this article.

Posted Feb. 18 at 3:28 p.m.

Power and water has been restored to much of the Sugar Land and Missouri City communities as of 10 a.m. Feb. 18.

“Things are looking better,” Missouri City City Council Member Floyd Emery said in a press conference Feb. 18. “Once we get past it sounds like tomorrow night, we should have some decent weather and we can start trying to get back to somewhat of a normal living.”

Here are local updates from both cities regarding electricity, water, road conditions and warming centers.

Electricity

Missouri City Mayor Robin Elackatt said in a lunchtime press conference that just 1.3% of Missouri City holdholds remained without power, down from 51% the day prior. Power has also been restored for most Sugar Land residents, the city said in a Feb. 18 press release.

“These numbers are significantly lower,” Elackatt said during the press conference. “We're looking forward to having all the households and businesses back online.”

As of 9 a.m. Feb. 18, CenterPoint Energy, the energy delivery company for much of the Greater Houston area, showed 98.5% of its customers have power.

Water

In Sugar Land, all four water systems are on regular power and fully functional, the city said in a press release the morning of Feb. 18.

Sugar Land's Greatwood and Greatwood Lakes communities remain under a boil water notice until test results show the water is safe to consume. The rest of the city is not under a boil water notice.

Missouri City Utilities Manager Todd Hoover said 10 of the 34 of municipal utility districts located within the city are under a boil water notice.

Residents living in the following MUDs are asked to boil their water for at least two minutes prior to consumption to ensure it is safe to drink. Check to see which MUD your neighborhood is located in here.

Hoover said while water may be discolored, it is still safe to drink once boiled. Once the boil water notices are lifted, something Hoover said could take five to seven days, residents will be asked to flush their water lines to rid any lasting discoloration.

Missouri City does not operate any of the MUDs within the city, so residents experiencing issues related to their water are asked to contact the MUD directly, Hoover said.

Roads

All Sugar Land and Missouri City roads are passable as snow and ice has continued to melt, city officials said.

However, Texas Parkway between Independence Boulevard and Grand Park Drive was temporarily closed due to power line issues.

Warming centers

With temperatures expected to dip below freezing again overnight Feb. 18, Missouri City officials said they, in partnership with Fort Bend County, will continue to operate the warming center at the Missouri City Recreation and Tennis Center until Feb. 20 at noon.

Missouri City acting Fire Chief Mario Partida said the city was able to serve 22 individuals at this warming center—which is located at 2701 Cypress Point Drive—on Feb. 17.

Updates on other warming centers in Fort Bend County are available here.

For more information about how the city of Sugar Land and the city of Missouri City are responding to the ongoing effects of the winter storm visit their websites.
