What is Diabetic Neuropathy?

Diabetic neuropathy is the nerve damage that can happen overtime from diabetes. High blood sugar and high levels of fats found in the blood of diabetics can damage the nerves. There are four common categories Diabetic Neuropathy falls under; peripheral, autonomic, focal, and proximal.

Causes

Diabetic Neuropathy is a condition that diabetic patients may develop over time. It generally occurs when blood sugar levels are uncontrolled. Diabetic Neuropathy can cause damage to the nerves of the feet and legs, as well as the hands and arms. Diabetic Neuropathy can cause problems with digestion, sexual function, frequent urination and may lead to amputation and disability. In addition to poor blood sugar control, high blood pressure, smoking, and other health conditions can contribute to developing Diabetic Neuropathy.
