How the Brain to Body System Provides Chronic Pain Relief in Thompsons, TX

To reverse chronic pain and/or nerve disease, areas of the body that have become weak due to disease or injury must be strengthened. This includes your brain, nerves, muscles, blood vessels, and cells. Our experts here at Texas Nerve and Spine developed the most advanced pain and nerve therapy system to do all of this and more, and we call it the Brain to Body System.

From fibromyalgia and disc herniations to diabetic neuropathy and sciatica, our Brain to Body System helps restore your health and corrects the causes of your problems. Unlike treatments from other nerve and spine clinics, our system provides long-term relief without relying on invasive surgeries or dangerously addictive pharmaceutical medications.

To understand how our Brain to Body System solves chronic pain and similar conditions like nerve disease, you need a basic knowledge of the conditions themselves. That way, you can understand why so many who suffer from them rarely improve.

Chronic Pain

Chronic Pain

This is a type of pain that does not get better on its own or that doesn't alleviate after traditional medical treatments or prescription pain meds.

Nerve Disease

Nerve Disease

This is a type of pain that does not get better on its own or that doesn't alleviate after traditional medical treatments or prescription pain meds.

Chronic pain from nerve diseases and serious injuries causes a domino effect within your body. It starts with inflammation, which leads to decreased blood supply. This reduced blood supply results in a lack of oxygen. When your body doesn't get enough oxygen, it loses crucial nutrients that your body needs. This progressive effect often leads to long-term problems such as:

  • Chronic Pain
  • Motor-Function Loss
  • Loss of Sensation
  • Muscular Atrophy
  • Loss of Movement
  • Depression

But with Texas Nerve and Spine's Brain to Body system, patients suffering from chronic pain and nerve disease build strength through rehabilitation. This advanced system helps:

  • Stimulate New Nerve Pathways
  • Strengthen and Grow Muscles
  • Promotes Cellular Repair
  • Improves Circulation and Blood Flow

Our Brain to Body System is central to our approach to chronic musculoskeletal pain relief and chronic nerve pain relief in Thompsons, TX. By following the Brain to Body system, we can provide several services to patients suffering from chronic pain and nerve damage.

EWOT:Exercise with Oxygen Therapy

Here's a fact you might not know: Breathing in higher levels of oxygen than you normally take in actually helps improve your health. Also called EWOT, exercising with oxygen is a technique that increases oxygen circulation at a much more rapid pace than oxygen therapy alone. Create New Blood Cells

How Does EWOT Work?

At Texas Nerve and Spine, our doctors use the NuStep Recumbent Cross Trainer to help achieve the aforementioned benefits. This specialized machine trains your muscles, brain, and nerves to work together, which supports your body's healing processes. While using the NuStep Recumbent Cross Trainer, patients are hooked up to an oxygen generator to enjoy the benefits of EWOT and reach their chronic pain relief goals.

When you oxygenate your blood with EWOT, it can have amazing benefits that can:

  • Restore Blood Flow
  • Improve Oxygen Circulation
  • Reduce Inflammation
  • Boost Energy
  • Increase Strength

Our program uses state-of-the-art technology to apply acute, high-velocity vibration directly to the affected tissue to provide the patient with the environment necessary to increase mobility which, over time, can exponentially reduce pain

Benefits of this type of treatment include:

Suppose you're searching for a safe, effective way to deal with a painful spine issue like sciatica or a herniated disc. PeripheralNeuropathy Rehabilitation

Peripheral neuropathy occurs when there is a lack of blood flow to the nerves in areas like your feet and hands. When these nerves are devoid of blood, they begin to decay and degenerate because they don't have enough oxygen or nutrients. Eventually, the nerves in your body shrivel up, causing pain, numbness, balance problems, and other painful symptoms.

Our Brain to Body program works wonders for neuropathy issues like these by using state-of-the-art technology like laser therapy and personalized, strategic plans of action created around our patient's needs. TherapySpinal Decompression Therapy

Spinal conditions range in severity from barely noticeable to absolutely crippling. To get to the bottom of your spine conditions, our team uses X-Rays to pinpoint the location of your spine's disease. From there, we craft a custom rehabilitation program that addresses the underlying causes of your spine pain. Often, part of that therapy includes spinal decompression.

Pain Specialist Thompsons, TX

How Does Spinal Decompression Therapy Work?

Spinal decompression works by gently stretching the spine. When the spine is stretched, it changes its position. This change relieves pressure off the discs in your spine, which act as cushions in your back. By creating negative pressure, herniated and bulging discs retract, giving the nerves and structures in your back relief. This relief sends nutrient-rich fluids and oxygen to the discs in your back so they can heal properly.

Former Oklahoma quarterback Charles Thompson never imagined he'd even consider putting up the "Hook `em Horns" hand gesture.

He's done it now, and for good reason. His son, Casey, will start at quarterback for No. 21 Texas (4-1, 2-0 Big 12) against No. 6 Oklahoma (5-0, 2-0) in the annual rivalry game.

It's a strange situation for the elder Thompson, who lives in Moore, Oklahoma -- a short drive from Oklahoma's campus. Charles ran the wishbone offense for coach Barry Switzer, playing a significant role in Sooner victories over Texas in 1987 and 1988.

"I've been an OU fan since I was six," Charles, a native of Lawton, Oklahoma, said. "Every year, this time of year, I've always rooted against Texas. Even the last few years with Casey on the team, I still kind of quietly wanted Oklahoma to win -- kind of a win/win situation for me. This will be the first year that honestly, I'm really rooting for Texas."

Charles said he catches some grief from his old teammates with his son playing for Oklahoma's biggest rival.

"I mean, there's surely some joking, kind of messing around a little bit, but I think all of them are kind of in support of him," he said. "They certainly want Casey to have a great game, but want Oklahoma to win.

"I get a mulligan. I want Casey to win."

Connecting you to your favorite North Texas sports teams as well as sports news around the globe.

Charles won't go so far as to wear Texas' burnt orange, and he said if you gut him open, he'll bleed Oklahoma crimson. He'll wear a custom-made black Texas shirt when he sits with the other parents.

"Well, I've never put on burnt orange," he said defiantly.

The situation has provided an opportunity for Charles to learn a few things about the rivalry from the Texas side.

"All my life, I've always called it the OU-Texas game," he said. "Ask anybody from Oklahoma, they'll say OU-Texas. I got sort of harassed a little bit in Austin because they say Texas-OU. They want Texas first."

Casey is in an odd situation, too. He wore Oklahoma's crimson and cream until his high school days. Another of Charles' sons, Kendal, played for the Sooners, further strengthening the bond between the family and the school.

Casey played high school football at Southmoore High School in Moore before playing his senior season at Newcastle High School in Newcastle, Oklahoma.

As he became a major prospect, his loyalty to Oklahoma waned. Former Texas coach Tom Herman recruited Thompson back when Herman was the head coach at Houston, and Tim Beck had recruited him when he was an assistant at Ohio State. When Herman took over at Texas and Beck became the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Texas, it made sense for Casey to take a look. He attended the 2017 Red River rivalry game as Longhorns prospect.

Naturally, the locals objected when Texas entered the picture.

"I remember even in high school when I was getting recruited, some of my teachers and best friends were like, `If you go to that school, I'll never root for you, never cheer for you,"' Casey said. "But I'm really not worried about people who are hating. I'm trying to focus on this team and the people who care about me and love and support me."

Though he was highly recruited, his journey hasn't been easy. Even after he stepped in for the injured Sam Ehlinger and threw four touchdown passes in the 55-23 Alamo Bowl win over Colorado, he didn't secure the starting job. Freshman Hudson Card won the spot in the summer and started the first two games.

Casey has taken over and completed 71% of his passes. He has thrown nine touchdown passes and just three interceptions. Now, he has the Cotton Bowl stage.

"It's a dream come true for me to start in this game," he said. "But I don't really think that I'll be nervous or anxious or uptight. I'm excited to play."

Oklahoma coach Lincoln Riley has followed Casey throughout the years and has a good relationship with the family. He's glad to see Casey succeed.

"Here from game three on he has played at a high level, has done some really good things -- moving around, throwing the ball well like he does," Riley said. "I don't wish him success on Saturday. We're going to get out there and compete against each other. But I'm happy for him. I'm glad he's having success. And I'm not surprised."

It’s official. The long-awaited, über-chic Thompson Houston hotel is scheduled to open its doors on December 21 and is now accepting reservations. The just-released first images of the luxe hotel provide a peek into the sleek interiors that are a trademark of the Thompson group.

The gorgeous, futuristic glass-and-steel façade with curved lines, designed by award-winning local architecture firm HOK, soars above Buffalo Bayou Park on Allen Parkway, close to downtown. Houston-based Abel Design Group crafted the interiors, which were inspired by the nearby park with warm earthy colors, organic materials, brass fixtures, marble bathrooms and hardwood floors.

The Thompson Houston boasts 174 rooms including 34 suites with floor-to-ceiling windows offering unobstructed views across the cities skylines in all directions.

The Thompson group is known for incorporating elements from the city into the design. Thompson Houston’s stunning lobby in the sky, on the seventh floor, was designed in a mid-century style. And guest rooms were created with a Texas oil baron’s home in mind.

Think warm earthy colors, organic materials, brass fixtures and hardwood floors paying homage to the hotel’s natural setting on nearby Buffalo Bayou Park.

An entire floor of the new Houston hotel is devoted to wellness, including a full-service spa with six sizable treatment rooms, hair and nail salon, indoor/outdoor sanctuary, state-of-the-art fitness facility and sauna. Of course, leisure opportunities abound, from the massive infinity pool with cabanas on a one-acre outdoor rooftop living room to rooftop restaurant Sol 7 and coffee cocktails at Maven Coffee Company.

Bering's Gifts

In a sister structure adjacent to the hotel, two restaurants are on tap also. Those restaurants are set to open in December just in time to provide extended food offerings for hotel guests. Noble33 hospitality group will open both Toca Madera , a modern Mexican steakhouse, and Meduza Mediterrania, an inventive Eastern Mediterranean restaurant.

“After years in the making, we’re thrilled to open Thompson Houston this December,” Ted Knighton, managing director of Thompson Houston, says in a statement. “A sought-after destination for guests and locals alike, Thompson Houston will provide an unparalleled luxury escape for business meetings, weddings, galas, wellness experiences, and distinctive dining, in the heart of Houston.”

Hotel reservations are available here now for stays starting December 21 or later.

The 36-story mixed-use building that houses Houston’s first Thompson hotel also includes Residences at the Allen, 99 luxury condominiums and 16 penthouses, the owners of which have access to all the amenities of the hotel.

Texas safety Jerrin Thompson, "The D-line is looking nasty. Mean, nasty, and violent."

Which running back is hardest to tackle?

“We got a few running backs, they all got a different type of style when they carry the ball. It’s really knowing who you’re dealing with. Some guys you gotta bring a little lower pad level. Some guys you know are going to try to give you a little shift and you gotta get your feet a little tighter. I don’t know, I really couldn’t tell you because we had some backs last year that were hard to tackle. So, going from that and just getting better reps against great backs. It’s just a lot of good competition going on.”

Hardest receivers to cover?

“It’s easily the older guys, they got experience, they know how to beat you with technique and stuff like that. So really the guys like Jordan (Whittington) who have been doing this thing.”

Arch Manning’s 50-yard TD run in the Saturday scrimmage

“Arch had a good Summer and Spring, we could see that he could run during Spring. It really wasn’t surprising to me that he took off like that.”

Fastest speed time on the team he’s heard of?

“We have guys clocking 23 (mph) I believe. Keilan (Robinson), X, we got about three or four guys.”

A reporter asks him who is X. “Xavier (Worthy). You could of knew that one,” Thompson replied semi-jokingly.

On Jalen Catalon

“He was a good fit for us. He came, he understood what he needed to do. Obviously he has tons of reps. He knows how to play the safety position — All-American. He knows how to play the safety position. He’s very communicative. He’s very energetic. He’s going to be a good guy for us.”

What’s Thompson’s new role with so many new faces in the secondary?

“Same role I’ve always had. Be a leader out there. Be a safety. Put guys around me and make sure everyone is on the same page.”

His specific offseason goals

“One thing I focused on is really identifying formations, things I can get ahead, alert my guys for things to happen, not just pre-snap but post-snap, certain (route) stems and stuff. I took a lot of time watching film seeing if I could get a heads up before the play.”

On his interception during the Saturday scrimmage

“I was just basically a Cover 2 safety reading the quarterback. Quinn he was looking one way, he stayed that way, I was just waiting and broke on it.”

Young players making an early impression

“Our young guys came in and some of our transfers came in. Like you said, Malik (Muhammad) he’s showing tremendous improvement from him coming in in the Spring and understanding what he needs to do, he’s showing effort. Gavin Holmes, our corner from Wake Forest, he showed that he understands the game as well. Just being able to communicate with guys and grow relationships with them getting on the same page. Like I said, you gotta know who you’re dealing with and that’s the same thing on defense. Some corners like to play press, some corners like to play off. That’s one thing we understand with each other as a safety. That’s one thing I take key pride in and try to figure out how to make the best down.”

On freshman safety Derek Williams

“Man, Derek, he’s one of the freshmen that you don’t see, freshmen learn that fast and understand college football. The jump from high school to college football is tremendous, you learn coverages and techniques and stuff like that. Derek has shown he’s one of those players that loves to learn. Coach Gideon likes that about him. He’s just showing improvement every day.”

What could Thompson have been better at last year?

“I believe just on angling to the ball. I feel like me personally I missed a lot of big tackles out there that I should have brought down. Making sure we have leverage on everything, just making sure we’re going to get this guy down.”

Defensive back Jelani McDonald

“He’s one of them players, he’s going to be on (special) teams, he’s going to be a guy that plays early. Just being able to be long like that and he also has a feel for the game. He shows a lot of effort, too. That’s why I said special teams is going to be big for him.”

On the 2023 D-line

“Maaan, the D-line is looking nasty. Mean, nasty, and violent. They’re making our job in the back end 10 times easier, I promise.”

What the D-line has done recently to make him say that

“I was watching film last night how I was in the post and they closed every gap. When you’re in post defense that means we have every gap covered. They were making our job easier, as a post safety I was just deep, I didn’t have to come down and fit anywhere. Them blowing things (up), taking two-fers, taking gaps, that’s great. That’s going to make our job easier for sure.”

Regarding field cornerback competition

“It’s competitive. We don’t know who it’s going to be. We got guys going, and that’s what you want, you want guys competing. You want guys striving to be the best. In our cornerbacks room, we got some depth back there.”

A player who could surprise this year

“That may surprise us…I want to say D-Will (Derek Williams). People are talking about him but he’s really showing a lot of growth to be a freshman.”

[Sign up NOW for the Inside Texas newsletter for Texas Longhorns daily updates and breaking news in your inbox!]

On creating more takeaways this season

“Especially on days when we’re not tackling, we’re thinking about the ball. Those are the best days to work the ball when you’re not taking anybody to the ground, why not work at the ball? And that’s one thing I feel that we’ve improved tremendously from even last year. This Fall camp we’ve had plenty of turnovers, punching the ball, interceptions, tips, overthrows, even sacks. That’s one thing that we’ve grown and focused on, trying to get the ball back.”

Who’s going to lead the secondary in picks?

“It’s going to be me.”

Casey Thompson isn’t waiting for spring football to engage in another Texas quarterback derby. He’s out.

Thompson, a junior who started 10 games for the Longhorns this season, has put his name into the transfer portal, a team spokesman confirmed on Friday.

Thompson’s decision comes two days after Texas signed two highly-coveted quarterbacks — Ohio State transfer Quinn Ewers and California product Maalik Murphy. The Horns also still have Hudson Card, a redshirt freshman who won the job initially this summer before giving way to Thompson in Week 3.

“Right now, I’m not going to comment on it,” Charles Thompson, Casey’s father, told the Austin American-Statesman. “We just feel it’s in his best interest to seek something else.”

This is the second time that Thompson, an Oklahoma native, has put his name in the transfer portal. He once explored the possibility of transferring to Oklahoma and playing for his father’s alma mater, but eventually stuck with UT.

“At the end of the day, I feel confident he’ll have some viable opportunities,” Charles Thompson said. “We wish the best of luck to Texas and what they’ve got going. Sometimes, you’ve got to know when you need to find something better.”

Thompson’s journey at Texas started in 2018 when he signed with then-coach Tom Herman. He served as Sam Ehlinger’s backup for three years, playing mostly mop-up duty.

But Thompson was electric when an injured Ehlinger passed the reins for the second half of the 2020 Alamo Bowl. Thompson engineered five scoring drives, four going 75 yards or longer and resulting in touchdowns.

That performance alone left many believing he would have a leg up over Card going into the 2021 season. But Texas went through a coaching change, and everyone was back to square one under Steve Sarkisian.

Sarkisian chose Card as his season-opening starter against Louisiana. Getting through that game was relatively easy. But Card looked rattled and ill-equipped the following week in a disastrous loss at Arkansas. Thompson became the starter the next week against Rice.

Against OU, Thompson suffered a thumb injury that limited his effectiveness the rest of the season. Still, he gutted it out and finished the 5-7 campaign with 2,113 passing yards, 24 touchdowns and nine interceptions.

Before the Kansas State finale, Sarkisian said he would reopen the quarterback competition in the spring. “I mean, I heard what he said. A lot of people sent it to me,” Thompson said after the K-State game. “We’ll have a conversation after the season.”

The dynamics of the quarterbacks room changed in December, though.

Ewers was a five-star recruit while at Southlake Carroll and once was considered the nation’s No. 1 overall recruit for the 2022 class. But he reclassified his eligibility in order to enroll early at Ohio State, where he sat the bench this season as the Buckeyes' fourth-stringer but cashed in several name, image and likeness deals.

Ewers saw little future in Columbus once C.J. Stroud won numerous Big Ten offensive awards, so he went into the portal. Texas made a full-court push and landed Ewers, who grew up wanting to be a Longhorn anyway.

Murphy stuck with UT despite all the Ewers hysteria. He led his team to a state championship last weekend and then signed Wednesday with the Longhorns. Both Ewers and Murphy are expected to enroll at UT for the spring semester to go through spring practice.

“We’re lucky we got two great quarterbacks,” Sarkisian said on Wednesday. “Quinn and Maalik are both fantastic players.

“We believe in our ability to develop the quarterback and then I think that both these young men saw that."

In the summer of 2022, we paid a visit to the newly opened Thompson Austin, the hotel brand’s third foray into Texas (following Dallas and San Antonio) and the first to introduce a two-hotels-in-one concept with the addition of tommie.

Tucked right between 5th and 6th Streets, the new Thompson Austin hotel opened this past January in the heart of the city’s downtown. The mixed-use build (designed by bKL Architecture) is a sleek addition to downtown Austin’s skyline, featuring 212 luxurious guestrooms and suites designed by KTGY Simeone Deary Design Group, along with 17 residences, a 6,700-square-foot wellness center, a rooftop pool deck, two restaurants, and private event space.

And though this is the third Texas offering from the Thompson brand, there is one major distinction: the addition of tommie.

Los Angeles may be home to the first tommie, a boutique hotel offshoot of the Thompson brand geared at younger travelers, but Austin is the first instance of a combined Thompson and tommie experience.

Note: We spent our weekend at the Thompson Austin, so we’ll have a little more detail about that side of the unique hotel.

With entrances right next to one another on San Jacinto Boulevard, the Thompson Austin and tommie Austin blend together until you head to your room. The two share hotel amenities, like the state-of-the-art gym and the rooftop pool and gardens, as well as the four dining options.

The idea of tommie was to create a more casual experience for a traveler who doesn’t spend as much time in their room but could still access the more luxurious aspects the Thompson offers. The slightly less expensive guestrooms are smaller in size but still offer a cool, minimalist design by Venice-based Studio Collective.

The Thompson Austin Guestrooms

Luxury meets hipster at the new Thompson Austin, especially when it comes to the guest room design. A few focal points in the King City View room include dark green leather headboards, concrete ceilings, and views that double as works of art. Our room faced directly out towards 6th Street with the historic Driskell hotel perfectly in view. I was a little worried when I saw that complimentary ear plugs were provided with a note about the infamously noisy street, but we didn’t hear a thing all night.

The Little Things

Slick hotel bathrooms feature black toilets, black-and-white speckled tile, gold accents, and D.S. & DURGA products (including the Thompson Hotel’s signature brand scent). Each room comes stocked with a couple of cozy, hoodie robes and slippers to borrow as well.

Rooms also include Nespresso coffee makers and a bar stocked with Texas-sourced snacks and Tito’s (of course).

The Rooftop Pool

Situated on the fourth floor, the rooftop pool deck at Thompson Austin is stunning. It includes Wax Myrtle’s Club, where you can easily grab bites or a cocktail to sip by the pool. There are several lounge chairs (first-come, first-serve) but you can also reserve a cabana.

The Fitness Center

The 6,700-square-foot wellness center includes treadmills, ellipticals, climbers, Peloton bikes, a weightlifting area, a squat rack, and so much more. There are also private rooms that can be used for TRX training and HIIT workouts, a spin class room, yoga and dance class room, and sports simulator room. What else could you need?

Dining at Thompson Austin

My favorite part of our stay was a dinner at Wax Myrtle’s. The Mediterranean restaurant just came out with a new menu and it’s exceptional. First, start with the heirloom tomato burrata and warm truffled feta. The feta is topped with pistachios giving it a creamy and crunchy balance. Next, don’t miss the sweet potato fries, they’re not the usual. These are thin wedges of sweet potato with jalapeno yogurt, barbecue oil, za’atar, and cilantro. And lastly, whether sharing or not, the Hide-A-Way Cheeseburger is perfect for either. It’s wagyu beef topped with melted white cheese, pickles, Golden sauce, and chopped red onion.

As for cocktails, you can’t go wrong with BDAY — a mezcal-based drink with Cappelletti, Strega, lime, grapefruit soda, and a Gentian aperitif. Or if you’re more of a whiskey lover, the Day Trip is a strawberry sweet favorite.

Founded by John O. Morisano and James Beard Award-winning chef Mashama Bailey (Savannah’s The Grey), this Southern fine dining restaurant at Thompson Austin is led by chef de cuisine Kristine Kittrell. Located on the ground floor of the hotel, Diner Bar is the sister restaurant of The Grey.

Make sure to start with the Eleven Twenty-Five cocktail. It’s a white rum-based drink with cognac, cinnamon, and lime. For appetizers, don’t miss the foie and grits — duck liver sits atop a plate of grits, served with strawberry mostarda and onion gravy, offering a perfect mix of sweet and salty. The lamb crepinette is another favorite with mashed potatoes and brasied greens. The menu also offers fresh oysters and a chicken fried quail that looked delicious.

Around the corner from Diner Bar, The Grey Market (also founded by Morisano and chef Bailey) features grab-and-go bites and an all day menu of Southern favorites. If you’re dining in, you can expect breakfast dishes, The Grey Market burger, fried chicken sandwiches, salads, soups, and more. A few ready-to-go sandwiches, salads, and spreads (pimento cheese, whipped ricotta, hummus) are also available to purchase and bring to your room or office. Local draft beer and wine are also available.

The Coffee Bar at tommie

In the need of a quick caffeine fix or a good place to hang out? The hotel also houses an all-day coffee shop and bar designed to evoke the warmth of West Texas. The menu features coffee from Dripping Springs’ Greater Goods Coffee Co. There’s a communal table, bar seating, and spots by the fireplace to chill or work while sipping a latte or local craft beer.

In addition to all of these perks inside of the hotel, Thompson is in walking distance of so many Austin favorites. The Paramount Theatre, Antone’s Nightclub, and of course, 6th Street are all a short walk away. Also, don’t forget to grab a donut from Voodoo Doughnut any time of day.
